Seaside Community School

Dream of Teacher

I promised that I went to teach class with a teacher who was in Seaside Community School, but she couldn’t come to school because of her injury. She returned to her job since last week. I could join to support not only math class but also Bislama class in this 1st grade

Content of teaching is a little bit different between Japan and Vanuatu, but I was learned from this teacher about importance of entertained children. She is an expert teacher, having worked for 18 years. I could feel that there was a teacher who had passion of teaching in Vanuatu. Even if I have come here to teach math and music, but it is important for me to have a modest feelings and also learn in Vanuatu. I think I might be able to learn a lot of thing from this teacher. There are some interesting practice. So I keep some record. I will practice after I go back to Japan,

The teacher said “I will have been a teacher for 20 years 2 years after I will retire. Because I want to do different things. ” So I said, “You are a good teacher, therefore your retirement is not good for children.” I continued to talk to her. Her dream is to build a school and manage it. It is a nice dream. I said, “If your school finish to build, I want to come here again.”

This day, I joined not only math but also music. I found some Japanese recorders there.

Some Japanese people donated them to Vanuatu. I could look some Japanese names on those recorders. They help children to learn music again in Vanuatu. If people who donated recorders know it, they will be glad. The teacher learned to play recorder from ex-JICA volunteer of music. She told that she didn’t know how to teach melodeon. So I promised that I support to teach it. I will be able to start to teach not only math but also music.
