今日は、やっとフランス語系の学校に行くことができました。St. Jeanne d'Arc schoolです。３年生のクラスです。算数の学習は、３ケタのひき算でした。繰り下がりのある計算です。いくつか学校を見てきましたが、このクラスの子供は全体的に理解できているという印象でした。それでも習熟が遅い子供もいるので、そういう子供の支援ができたらよいなと思っています。３ケタのひき算の教え方を先生に休み時間に話しました。日本の教科書の英語版を使って説明しました。残念ながらフランス語版はありません。日本の教科書会社はフランス語版の教科書は出しているのでしょうか。

算数の時間以外は、一緒にフランス語の授業を聞いていました。フランス語って本当に難しいです。先生が子供に渡していたプリントを私にもくださいました。フランス語を勉強しようという良い刺激になりそうです。今日は、急に外国に転入した転校生の気分でした 笑。
みんなビスラマ語を話すので、私はビスラマ語で先生や子供と会話しています。ああ、でもフランス語で話してみたいな。
ある子供がリコーダーを私に差し出して、吹いてくれというので、ドレミの歌やキラキラ星、クリスマスの曲などを吹きました。子供からのリクエストに応えて吹きました。みんな喜んで、ところどころ歌っていました。リコーダー吹けてよかったと思いました。今日の発見。サンタクロースのことを子供たちはパパ ノエルと呼んでいるということです。サンタクロースと言ったら、最初は通じませんでした。ある子供が持っていた本は雪のクリスマスの本。でも、バヌアツは夏のクリスマスです。日本は雪が降るのかと聞くので、日本のクリスマスは寒いし、雪も降るよと話しました。日本語のあいさつもいくつか教えたら、すぐに使っていました。
先生も快くまた、来週もおいでと言ってくださいました。算数の計算プリントを作って持っていこうかと思っています。
算数って本当にすごいと思います。言葉がわからなくても、算数の言葉で会話ができるから。教えている内容は分かります。また、学校へ行くのが楽しみになりました。バヌアツに来る前は、フランス語系の学校に行くことを想像していなかったのですが、思い切って行ってみてよかったです。
the teacher explained
Today, finally I was able to go to the French school. It is St.Jeanne d'Arc school. I went to third grade class. Math learning was the 3-digit subtraction. It is down repeated culculation. I've seen a few schools, but I got the impression that children of this class are overall able to understand. But since some children understand slowly, I want to support of such children. I told the teacher how to teach of the 3-digit subtraction during rest time. I described using the English version of the Japanese textbook. There is no French unfortunately. Have Japan textbook companies published the French version?
I listened to French class with children except math class. It is very difficult for me to understand French. The teacher passed me a print which she passed to children. It might be stimulate for me to learn French. Today, I felt like a transfer student who suddenly move to a foreign country. Everyone speaks Bislama, so I make a conversation with them in Bislama. Ah, but I want to make a conversation with them in French.

A child asked me to play recorder, so I played “Do-Re-Mi”, “tinkle tinkle little star” and Christmas song so on. I played recorder depend on request of children. Everyone was pleasure and they sang some parts. Today’s discovery. Children call Santa Claus as Papa Noel. At first, they couldn’t understand when I told about Santa Claus. A child had a book which is story of snow Christmas. However, Vanuatu is summer Christmas. She asked me if Japan has snow in Christmas season, so I told that it was cold and there was snow in Japan. I taught some Japanese greeting, then they used them soon.
The teacher said to me kindly, “Please come next week.” I will make a math print. I think that math is amazing. Even if I cannot understand language, we can make a conversation by words of math. I can understand contents of teaching. I am looking forward to going to this school. I didn’t imagine that I went to French school before I came to Vanuatu, but it was good for me to try to go to this school .
